Scorpion Mountain
HIKE: Scorpion Mountain
MILEAGE: 8.2 miles roundtrip
We did not go all the way, we stopped on a hillside; the true distance all the way is 8.6 miles roundtrip according to WTA.ORG
ELEVATION GAIN: ~2300 feet
Again, total for going to the top would be 2500 feet.
SEASON: Summer
PARKING: SMALL lot; 6-8 cars + a little extra along the road
THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND:
This hike was incredibly steep in several sections. It was also very covered, and breezy.
if carrying a baby in a carrier where s/he is touching you, be mindful of how many outfits you have, as well as how sweaty/wet baby gets.
There are no water sources.

The Squish is 5 months old + 2 days (22 weeks)
Hike #12
Oh man.
I don't want to say this was a bad hike...but...this was a bad hike.
We could try and pin it down to being a bad hike for one or two reasons, but honestly it was a combination of several.
1. We had just hiked the majority of the day before, at Snow Lake. Paired with this day of hiking, that's almost 2 days of being exclusively in a carrier or a carseat for The Squish.
2. Aaron almost always does the climbing part of carrying The Squish, and I do descents. Aaron also sweats a lot more. It's not usually an issue for these summer hikes. We don't stop during ascents, and then when we get to our destination we do a quick outfit change, and everyone is happy. Liam was soaked most of this hike due to steep ascents. Paired with the shade, and the breeze, there was more crying on this hike than all previous 11 hikes combined.
3. Speaking of crying, I cried.
Being 3.5 miles in on a trail where your baby won't stop crying, and you feel like you didn't pack the bag correctly (with enough warm clothes) is such a sucky feeling.
Also then, Aaron being surrounded by a crying mama and a crying baby, does not make for a fun time.
4. We went hiking with our good friends. But we stopped so many times to try and troubleshoot The Squish's crying, that they ended up hiking without us. This let to us being stressed out because we felt like we were being a burden to our friends.
5. My muscles gave out. I ended up carrying The Squish uphill (I don't give Aaron enough credit for how hard that is!! The Squish is a healthy 19 lbs now!) Maybe from hiking the day before, or underestimating the hills of this hike, I didn't have the muscle energy to hike all the way to the top.
~~~
So, a lot of things working against us for this hike.
We saw another couple with their 5 month old baby on the hike. I should have stopped and asked for their perspective of the hike (and given a high-five!)
We are looking forward to the days (soon) when The Squish can go in the backpack carrier. It'll make it so much easier to regulate his temperature. And to distribute the weight comfortably for us.
It was a beautiful day outside, but probably the last time we do a double-hike weekend for a bit.
