Green Mountain (bremerton)

HIKE: Green Mountain trail (Bremerton)
MILEAGE:  5.0 miles roundtrip
ELEVATION GAIN: 1,000 feet
SEASON: late Spring
PARKING: decent lot, gravel; yet to see it ever all the way full
The trail is at the left-most corner.
THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND: Horses are allowed on this trail. So are pets.
(Discover Pass needed for this hike)

***The stats listed here are for the whole trail up to Green Mountain vista.
We just did the first quarter-mile (half mile roundtrip), flat trail.
***If you do this trail in its entirety, it is pretty steep, but so worth the views. Even if you just get up to the logging road (about halfway up) it's beautiful. And space for kiddos to run around

The Squish is 15 months old (+2 days)
Hike #16

Okay.
I'm just gonna come right out and say, hiking with kid(s) is sooo much more different than I was ever told it would be.
And every kid, and every parent are going to be different.
But, now that The Squish can walk, he doesn't tolerate the carrier for long distances.
Really, this is what "hikes" look like these days:

1. We play in the parking lot (if safe) for a few minutes.
2. Squish is carried in the carrier in a ways. If we try walking from the parking lot, he cries because he doesn't want to leave the parking lot. (Cars, and people, and gravel to eat - oh my!)
3. We walk back and forth along a stretch of trail, as Squish discovers (and rediscovers) plants, rocks, and bugs.

My preference may change some day.
For now, a majority of our hiking days, I have zero expectations of how far we are going to get, and try to spend my time connecting, teaching, and being a "safety bumper" as Squish ping pongs around in nature.
And take so many pictures. The time really is fleeting.

The trail to Green Mountain vista branches off to the left right before this bridge.
We crossed the bridge instead, and then got out of the pack to explore
