Poo Poo Point (again)
HIKE: Poo Poo Point (via Chirico Trailhead)
MILEAGE: 3.5 miles roundtrip
We only went to the first landing, so slightly less than the mileage/gain provided on WTA.org
ELEVATION GAIN: ~1600 feet
SEASON: mid-Summer
PARKING: small lot, extra parking in neighboring driveways for a fee.
THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND:
Chirico is one of the "trail highways", being highly trafficked by residents who live in Issaquah, and surrounding areas, as well as those who wish to get a good jaunt in before/during/after work. It's important to remember trail etiquette: those going up have the right of way, and pull to the side to let others pass.

This was The Squish's 2nd time up the Chirico Trail.

The Squish is just shy of being 5 months old (21.5 weeks)
Hike #10
It's not often we get to do a mid-week hike, so this was a real treat.
Note: this hike was done with a good friend Bri, and her nanny kid who will be referred to as 'X' from here on out to protect identity.
I'm a nanny on the weekdays, and have a good friend Bri who is also a nanny.
Her charge is 3 years old, and she's been wanting to take him on a hike this summer.
The stars aligned on this day--I had the day off, and it was a great day to be outside. The Squish is still too big to fit in the pack we bought him right after he was born (Kelty Journey PerfectFIT Signature Child Carrier), so Bri and X met us at the trailhead, and the pack was broken in!
This was a really neat opportunity for me, because it's one thing to hike while carrying an extra load (The Squish), and a completely different thing to go hiking when a kid is doing any of the walking/labor.
X was a trooper, and hiked about half of the way up (a mile!)
It was more than Bri or I had been anticipating him doing (especially for a first hike!)
The difference (for me) in carrying a child vs. hiking alongside an active 3 yo is as follows:
CARRYING:
-definitely get a lot more sweaty
-faster climbing/descending time (took 3 hours roundtrip)
-inclined to fall asleep easier
HIKING WITH A 3YO:
-more breaks (less sweaty)
-need to pay attention to bigger steps (a medium sized rock, is a LARGE rock to mini beings)
-need to carry more water, so the mini(s) can hydrate as well
-bribe with summit snacks
Something inside me was so happy getting to share one of my favorite trails with such a wide-eyed kiddo.
It also helped me realize how traveling trails will change when The Squish becomes more mobile and wants to do some of "the work" himself!
Slow is not bad, just different!
~~~
Also, we ended up not going to the second landing where the paragliders jump from. But we watched them from the parking lot after descending to the bottom. There were 10 in the air that we counted at one point!
